Rangmunch Trends: Is IPKKND really dipping?

Please raise your hands if you are unhappy with the current track in IPKKND? What started off as a story between a suave businessman and a goofy damsel is now still stuck in a limbo with meaningless comedy and badly directed scenes and episodes.

The Heer-Ranjha track that just went by had immense potential to bring out the inner turmoil between the characters but it failed to evoke the feelings that it was actually capable of. If Arnav is angry with Khushi why doesnt he tell her? How will that change anything for him? What holds him back? What stops Khushi from letting her family know that she is being tormented by a man who has held her captive?

Arnav is sexy, Khushi is beautiful. They seem to share an unexplained bond. What happens to the story after that? All of a sudden, the dark, hateful man turns all cheesy just like our regular TV leads. Even the actress, though charming and likable is now all mushy and irritating out of turn. The serious love story has turned into a comedy!

This brings me to question a lot about the consistency in these serials. Are drastic changes to a script a good option, or is it what the viewer’s really looking for? Lets take a look at the trends.

If one were to take a note of the TRP figures, Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon made an entry into the Top Ten List of shows in the Month of October with a TRP of 3.48 in the No. 8 slot when the Arnav had slowly begun to exhibit emotions towards Khushi. During this month the ratings ranged between 3.24 and 3.5. The show remained in the in the bottom five of the Top 10 Shows List. It crossed the 4.0 mark for the very first time when the Jadu Hai Nasha hai Promo aired in early November. Expectations were running high and the audience badly wanted to see Arnav and Khushi together. With a galloping 4.18 TRP the show made tremendous progress over night. However when the story switched back to the hatred track one could see an instant drop in numbers to as low as 3.24 in the very next week.

The comedy track was pulled in during the month of December with the introduction of new characters such as Nanda Kishore while Arnav's girl friend Lavanya made an exit. The ratings during the month seemed to have settled between the range of 3.7-3.9 which seemed a safe zone.

However when the show started to dip in its rankings despite having a steady TRP the airing of the Teri meri Promo and the subsequent song sequence once more worked in its favour.

Audience clearly wanted the intense love track back and embraced the same with open arms as the TRP's once more touched 4.12 during the airing of the sequence.

The show had made it to the Top 5 by this time. Between January 21st and February 14th the TRPs each week ranged between 4.12 and 4.59, the latter being the highest ever since the inception of the show. The moment Arnav and Khushi's got married and the reason for the marriage turned out to be hate the numbers plunged downwards once more.

Through March the show managed to maintained an average TRP of 3.6 which was a constant figure since November even during the tracks that had received a lot of criticism among the show discussing Online audience. In the week that concluded the latest TRP was 3.50 which was a steady fall over the weeks from 3.9 to 3.7 to finally 3.5.

Observations: People prefer watching the love track between the leads more than the turmoil. Whenever the leads are at logger heads, there has been a steady fall in the numbers. Though the average number of people who watch the show remains stable on an average, perhaps weaving a slightly more sensitive story around the leads may work more for the show. The online audience in case of this show have shown strong sense of like and dislike. Irrespective of whether they like something or not, at least a 3.5 range audience always watches the show.

The Online Audience: The show enjoys a vast Online Fanbase with various Fan Groups and Fan Pages adding numbers by the day. This audience enjoys discussing and debating over the tracks in the show and often readily offer suggestions and feedback. This is perhaps one of those very few shows where the TRP's and the Online Fan Base peacefully co-exist in harmony with one another.

Suggestions: A little more attention can be paid to the story and the direction which seems to appear disoriented off late needs to be immediately looked into. While the character graphs would remain the same, a little progression in terms of their daily developments and incidents could add more variety to the current plot. The emotions at times fall flat taking away the beauty of what could otherwise be sensitively conveyed. Other characters can be more effectively inter-woven into the main love story. For example there is no interaction between Payal and Shyam, though the former is fully aware of the man's past with her sister. She is so stuck up with pleasing her mother-in-law that she hasn't bothered to probe further into why her sister got married to Arnav all of a sudden. Even if Khushi had fallen in love with Arnav without Payals knowledge she has every right to ask questions being her sister. Khushi can discuss her problems with her own family.

If she chooses not to in order to save her sister, there has to be a way in which what Arnav did should start to back fire. After all, he got married to Khushi under misconception. He does nothing to change his brother-in-laws ways other than making eyes, gritting his teeth and asserting Khushi is now his wife. The forced rabba vey moments too can be replaced by sequences where Arnav and Khushi start to understand each other as fellow humans and stop running after the unexplained divine connection they share. A little more attention to direction while Arnav emotes can work wonders for the show especially since most of the population watching the show is female and they are young too. We have his break down sequences for precedence. No one likes the villain, but people are always willing to watch a man who is ready to change for the woman he loves. A subtle emphasis on it with a variety infused in day to day sequences can do the trick for the show.

We will be back next week with another show and their trends.

Note: These are observations made by the writer of the article. You as audience are more than welcome to share your views on the same and correct us if you feel we have failed to observe any point or issue. We at Rangmunch are always open to healthy discussions and debates.

  4. I agree with you. the show is dragging. its high time the truth comes out infront of arnav also they need to stop with the comedy. its ruining the show!

  5. I completely agree with the writer. I am a huge fan of IPKKND and Barun and Sanaya. However, the whole Misunderstanding track is so illogical that I feel the CVs thought we are dumb to accept whatever is dished out to us.

If there was even baby steps of progress towards clearing the misunderstanding, we would not have been this frustrated. Here the characters and writers don't know what they want and keep going around in circles alternating between 1 days intense scenes and other days sensely comedy!

I am fed up and planning to quit this show in another 15 days if things don't progress as far as the story is concerned.

  6. I do agree partially of what have you have written. They could have made the episodes a lil' more orientated towards the A&K intensity and they forgot some important bits like Payal-Shyam interaction. True. But Khushi puts up a happy face to deceive everyone, they are just going along what she displays. But recently, we did see Nani feeling odd about A&K.
    But
I guess audiences have to give space to the writers. How much can they show in 20-30 minutes episode? Analysing is good but over analysing just takes away the fun. Sometimes some episodes are like laying the brick of the foundation, where you cannot see what the building looks like unless your have seen the plan!
Lets hope the CVs know what they are doing and stick to the original concept!
Your article is brilliant. A reality check is always needed :) Thanks! Maybe it will do us, the audiences some good with refreshing awesome scenes

  7. Absolutely agree with you,. We in the forum have been discussing the same. With such talented actors and a wonderful crew they really should concentrate more on the story. Viewers all around the globe love this serial and there is so much potential to make it big. I hope the directors, writers and producers stick together to work this out. We love this serial and waiting eagerly to have it back on its unique path. If anyone in Rangmunch know the crew pls be kind enough to pass on this message from the fans that we are really waiting for the story to move and the love to develop between the leads rather than going around in circles.

  8. So very true. Totally agree with this article. We are bored with the current track of misunderstanding between ASR and KKGSR. The latest track of Payal and her MIL fancy dress competition was like the last nail to the coffin. How can one be so dumb to write such a track which has no meaning and was totally baseless? Didnt the CVS think that somebody else could have won the competition if not for Payal and her MIL? We the viewers have more perception and logical thinking than the writers themselves I feel now. I am a big fan of IPKKND but the current track is so boring that I dont have the patience to sit through and watch the same gisa pita ramayana...
CVs need to do something and that too soon or else the TRP Ratings would fall more..

    My 2 cents.

  9. They cannot brush the emotions they r showing between leads in very next second!! whats the point of showing Holi confession and Heer-Ranjha sequence..these things r not working for us!!! Arnav needs to start thinking ...
They need to show khushi sharing Shyam's lusting over her to someone , at least payal..it cannot be dragged like she is doing right now..its just unbelievable...

  10. I agree with most of what the article writer has said! I love this show and got hooked on it coz of the amazing chemistry of the leads and the "Intense" love story it promised! There was a point at which this show was VERY good!

I am an overseas viewer and watch this show on a Cable network! I also comment on the show activley online! This is my first Indian TV serial! Therefore I have high expectations of this show!

Since the actors of IPKKND have won so many awards in the past few weeks, it is clear that this show and the leads and cast have a cult following globally! I hope that the creatives dont let this go to waste and give us back the show we all love to watch!

They need to take steps to tighten up the scripts and make the story lines more consistant, instead of regressing so much between intensity and comedy! I also think they need to work URGENTLY on clearing the misunderstanding between Arnav and Khushi as little or NO progress has been made on this front for the past few weeks!

In short....things need to MOVE and move FAST before people start to loose interst! At the moment the popularity of Barun and Sanaya are keeping the viewers hooked! But the longer this illogical story line continues the harder it's going to be to keep the audience interested just by showing Barun in variouse casuals or shirtless! This in NO WAY compenstates for a lack of progression in the story!

  11. Absolutely agree.. I love IPKKND and Barun, Sanaya. But this misunderstanding track is frustrating. Even after two months of MU, why Arnav is not trying to find out the truth.. He is great businessman, why cant he use his powers.. I am tired of this track.. forced rabba veys.. manhandling of Khushi by both Arnav and Shyam.. atleast I expect Khushi to share Shyam advances with Payal or Buaji..

    ReplyDelete
  12. Also wanted to say all the viewers dislike the forced rabba ve's. We are not fools to be happy with the fake ones. When we love the real love they have why do we need to see the fake scenes. Shyam is a good villian, mamiji's punchy dialogues are good, Anjali has so much potential to develop her character as di, Payal has done nothing till now to prove she is Kushi's sis.We don't mind the good fights the leads have with hurt & love on both sides but they should have the story moving rather than keep on showing them fight and then forget the next day the reason for the fight. It is really painful to see our best serial dipping down. We so wish the directors take this to hand and make it better. We love Barun & Sanaya and want the best for them. God bless them.

    ReplyDelete
  13. i dont mind if they stretch the MU more...but it should become a little weak now... Arnav has to start using his famous brain and start having doubt on Shyam's version of the truth... he is seeing Khushi's behaviour with his family (nani and anjali) he should atleast try to investigate the matter further.....

Khushi should also try and understand what make Arnav what he is now....she has seen his good side...he has helped her during her bauji's hospitalisation...n all
i remember a dialogue where she tells payal that mami looks stern but is good at heart (though mami has never shown her good side to khushi) but she fails to acknowledge the same about arnav....

both the above factors is making the show loose its grip over us....

    1. The creatives have taken Arnavs brains away. What a horrible portrayal of top business tycoon to the rest of the world. I live in Canada and my non Indian friends had also got hooked on to the story due to the M&B type of romance. But now I am ashamed. Cannot even answer how come Indian business tycoons are so dumb, indian women are so willing to be abused and ready to be doormats. I thought Star Plus was asking all serials to show a new thinking but this is shameful portrayal of us indians

  14. I'll stay with this show..most viwers of this show are online viewers ..we prefer watching it online..which dsn't help getting TRPs...!! n m scared tht cv's will start putting script to get TRPs n will again get distracted from the main story line...TRP's are like their report card so they cant do away wid it...but good show..strong story line and honest effort from CVs will get the show back on track!!

Also entire show is running on ARSHI's shoulder...Just hope they dont shrug the pressure..how long can they alone hold the fort..develop and work on other actors CVs ..give them a chance to prove their skill like Anajli-Khushi (where is the chemistry)...Akash- Shyam (has anyone ever seen them talking),,, Mamaji-Nawab(he is his mothers brother..whom Nawab loved sooo dearly ..do they even share glances forget talking)...Nani- Khsuhi-Payal-Anajali-Mammi(not by their kiddish, obnoxious behavior)...

they are about to welcome a new member in the house..i dint see anyone dream talking about him/her except the would be father...these characters and their relationships can be explored in intresting and entertaining way..we keep waiting for Arshi moments coz there is nothing else worth watching ...i woul;d for once love to c AKASH-PAYAL-NAWAB-KHUSHI develop their chemistry!!
Me like all forum waisis wish to c ARSHI in everyframe..but interactions can be b/w other caharcters of the household involving them!!

  16. Totally agree, the show has immense amount of potential which is being wasted atm with a track that has been stretched to no end and really does not make any sense to me. The intensity in the love and the theme the show emphasized before it started has changed. I hope it gets back to what it was known for, instead of mindlessly dragging the show and showing so much of Maami and Payal, which none of us are even interested in seeing

  17. Interesting and Well said! I just hope that the makers sit up and take notice of the mess / kichiree they are making of IPKNND since the fated forced marriage of Kushi to Arnav. For me before Arshi marriage most episodes use to end leaving me wondering what next? But now it's confusion confusion! just like Arshi who do not have a clue as to how to manage their married status situation, the CVs also do not seem to have a clue to how to take the track forward.

    Since Arshi marriage
ASR - seems to have lost his brain cells
Shyam - seems to have lost his evil streak
Khushi - not picking up on various clues being dropped
Khushi's family - not pressing her on the reason for her marriage
Misunderstanding - still at status quo and we are now over 6 weeks since this happened!

This serial is supposed to be about nafrat/ mohabat and intensity. Where are these emotions these days??? I know patience is a virtue and all that but still...

    A fan from Mauritius!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with all the others and the writer. How good it will be if ASR realizes his mistake and then Arnav & Kushi rope up together to get Shyam's truth out. That would really see us soaring in the skies. CV's are you reading here, please we are giving you ideas work on it or make it something worthwhile. We don't want our favourite serial to dip down.

    ReplyDelete
  19. cent percent correct...from past 2 months episodes either the entire episode is slapstick comedy or intense fighting with fake romance/rabbave here and there...the way the emotions are swinging it looks like it will just keep swinging and nothing else. They are holding back the view point or truth known by each character since february..where is this taking us? no charactar is ready to spill the beans and every episode is a suprise with varying emotions. Hope CV's atleast now will bring the story back. If you ask me wat happd in past 2 months i wud say just few comedy and just few fighting except the holi sequence (it was marvelously shot!!! something never scene in indian tv) Hope to see the story move fwd atleast now!!!

  20. one of the best things about this show was that the crux of the story was from male point of view! what started as a bang has all of sudden lost its way and that too not becoz of the leads but becoz of haywire storyline and ott comedy, so i would request rangmunch to convey this plea of all arhi fans to cvs that its time to pull their socks becoz with the way thngs are gng it wont be long before the trps drops futher more, which is not a good sign given the fact its has lot of potewntial along with a fab leads which is rare on tv and with so many shows lined on str plus it wont take them a moment to chng their minds abt this show since they only care abt trps.so cvs please take the story fwd and introduce some interesting twist becoz the best part abt the show is that fans still support the shown even when its gng thr a boring phase!

  21. The creatives have lost it. They can't handle the success any more. They seem so engrossed in creating an emotional high and then crash down examples are diwali, payal wedding, holi and now the H R act. They raise hopes that the dragging MU is getting over and then crash another MU starts. In doing so they loose continuity of the story and the very essence of each character. Arnav a supposed to be suave businessman never losing a deal appears like a dumb wit. Payal there was so much potential yesterday that she could have said how important it is for her to win but then she will ask her MIL to donate the prize money. But no all the women appear dumb. Khushi could have manipulated out of the situation of going with Shyam but she also appears dumb. Anjali takes the trophy in being dumb. An insult to all women. All episodes are only watchable due to the strong chemistry between the leads but it seems to be fizzling out especially since Khushi's character has been changed to that of the lead comedian completely out of character. Bubbly, witty and fun loving yes but not OTT comedian and Arnav a dumb wit. Who wants to watch romance between such two characters. We wanted romance between a sweet and cute sometimes a little pagal, humble khushi and ASR a suave business tycoon.

  25. Khushi and Shyam type of story could exist in many families were until now it has always been hushed. What a marvelous way of showing Nayi Soch and showing how cleverly Khushi handles him and opens up to her husband. But no there is no Nayi Soch portrayal in this story. Indian women agree to be abused and it is a crusade only a few have tried to fight but most suffer silently. Looks like IPkknd is following the suffering style not new thinking style. Awful. Also the creatives have so lost it that they will create another disjointed episode to show that is not the case and then forget about it. Cannot understand why the CV's stubbornly want to stretch the MU. Are they getting some sadistic pleasure or are they psycho's. They can stretch the MU but could at least have given ASR some thinking skills to question the reality, to probe how deep the feelings are? But now he is just a dumb wit. Day by day they show disconnected episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Glad this article has been written. Hopefully this and the TRPs will put the makers on alert!

Since the Arnav- Khushi marriage, the episodes have been mostly disjointed with no follow through. We are still where we started with the misunderstanding which occurred 2 months ago with most of the episodes shown post - marriage not being used to increase the mohabbat and decrease the hatred between Arnav and Khushi. These post marriage episodes have all seem to be disjointed, being hastily put together and with no follow through on leads given (dabba service, khushi wondering if Shyam is at bottom of misunderstanding, khushi finding ways to make ASR throw her out before 6 months, ASR not following through his doubts on Shyam..etc). There seems to be no clear direction what the leads should be achieving. We know Shyam's goal is to get Kushi (at least he is consistent)but what are Arnav's and Khushi's goals, they just seem to be going with the flow with no sense of purpose!!! And what about the rest of the cast, are they just to be used as props from now on? Surely they can be part of some parallel tracks!

Please please makers/CVs of IPKKND sit up and take notice and give us back those tight, beautifully directed, emotional episodes that were prior to the ARSHI wedding.

    1. Really agree with you on how *no* character seems to have any purpose! Arnav married Khushi - to what? Keep her away from Shyam? Who, oh btw, lives in the same house! Khushi is married to Arnav - but, doesn't know why. Shouldn't her purpose be to figure her LIFE out? No, instead she starts a freakin dhabba service???? WTH??? NO LOGIC whatsoever. Payal is living with her sister in the same sasural. Do we even get any interaction between them? NO! Arnav wants to protect Anjali - by doing what? Staring at Shyam? Seriously... DO SOMETHING!!! So much potential was in this track - and it's being wasted. I don't mind the CONCEPT of a misunderstanding, but the treatment has sucked. This is the opinion of someone who LOVES the show. So, this is coming from a place of true caring. CVs - get your acts together!

      Delete
    2. I want to know the same things. What is the business tycoon doing by staring at the culprit? What is he achieving by bringing the home wrecker and the culprit under the same roof? Why doesn't Payal talk to Khushi about Shyam? Not even once? What does Shyam want now? Anjali and Khushi both in his life.. HOW???? Why can't Khushi open her mouth about Shyam's manhandling to Payal or her family they know the truth.. what is stopping her? What was the point of having holi confession if they were not supposed to remember anything? What is the point of forcing meaningless rabba ves when they don't flow with the story and ANNOYS the viewer? Seriously they've COMPLETELY ruined such a mind blowing concept that I feel ashamed to have recommended this show to my friends. Ashamed is what I feel about this show right now. Niharika, a humble request, if you're in touch with anyone form the Production House then can you please please ask them to SAVE the show. WTH are they doing? It feels like I'm being punished for loving a show after so long.

  27. Niharika,

very nicely written. Yes IPK is one of the few shows that enjoys an online fan base in addition to the TV watching junta. Also the chracters were etched so well to begin with that inconsistencies and unwarranted gaffes show up prominently and jarringly. I picked up on the show mid-way, slowly got hooked on some superlative performances, hung on thanks to a group of people who shared my enthu for this show and sincerely wish that the show does not keel over in an ungainly manner.

Your points on handling scenes with sensitivity, depicting daily happenings while progressing the story and building on the side characyers in addition to the leads (and they do have a strong supporting cast) echo our thoughts. Subtlety has been the show's major attraction. That is why so many people started to look for symbolism and the story between the lines. There are still beautiful scenes but shoddy editing, misplaced expressions, ungainly humour and at times a haste in just finishing the scene spoils the overall effect. Some days stretch for ever while other are a blink and miss. Episodes are no longer well paced. They are very bipolar.

There has been humour before, hatred before (star crossed lovers we know) but the story was well paced. Now in the past 4 months it seems to be a TRP game alone. Twisting Rancho's words "Bhaagna hai toh story ke peeche bhaago, kaamiyaabi jhak maarke aa hi jaayegi"

I recall reading an interview of teh PH where they said one of the negatives in their previous show was the high and unhealthy dependance on the lead pair. The same seems to have happened here. Nani and Aakash are 2 beautiful characters who have been very under used. Even Mamaji if given screen space is very lovable.

They have displayed brilliance in the past, expecting to be let off with sub par will not work now. Not sure what has changed but if the creative team can pinpoint the issue, high time to put things in order.

  28. So agree a disinterest from the production house is so evident in this serial .... it seems typical of them they start great & then looks like they loose interest ... look at the direction goof ups .... serious continuity jerks & pathetically shot scenes ... more than Arnav's character ..if u seriously delve one can't figure out Khushi's character at all in this serial is she a matured individual or is she a goof .... the writers are seriously confused between Khushi & Gopi ( same writing team) she is sometimes so like Gopi .... also they seem to be touching on topics & abandoning them ... Khushi had a doubt in the early part of her marriage that her husband has figured her relation with Shyam ... so why dint they take that track further ... also if khushi started working so that she is independent ... did she pay Arnav back .... so many ques r left unanswered ... hope this is temporary glitch & the direction & production team bounce back .... & hopefully they read all the comments here & react .... & save one of the few shows on TV with a believable storyline & relatable track

  29. Whats irking in this current track is that a girl like Khushi ( which the CV's went about establishing with so much pain) who is completely forthright ... why the hell doesn't she just slap Shyam ... I mean he is an irritant in her life .... why can't she just tell him to go to hell ... while she seems to be screaming like a banshee on Arnav & plotting all the time to bring him down why doesn't she do the same with Shyam who she has a more justifiable reason to hate & distrust... Can never understand when creative teams of shows spend the first 100 episodes establishing main lead characters ... then why do they spend the rest of the time destroying the same?

    1. Agreed totally. Arnav and Khushi were so well established, and we all felt like we knew them. Now, the CVs have no clue who Arnav and Khushi are anymore. It's so strange. Khushi was always so head-strong - she stood up to Arnav so many times. But, she has lost that ability now - when it's most needed in her life? Arnav was so ruthless and intelligent - and, now he can't handle business dealings or work towards figuring out Shyam and Khushi's connection? How did they meet, what is their history, etc? Disappointing.

  30. I wonder if the creative team even goes thru the past episodes to figure out what all they have shown the audience .... this whole Fancy dress thingy was shown as a "saas bahu" competition ... forget Khushi & Arnav ... most other competitors were male pairs .... I mean give us a break ... most of us who follow this serial probably watch every episode at least 3 times ... v r more privcy & cued into the track ....& if they spent so much episode time on why raizada family had to loose then atleast they should've made the winner couples act better ... puhleeeeez !!! we as viewers r evolved pls .....dont take us for granted for long ... this is a youth based show with slightly younger TG ( mills & boons lovers) they don't want Khushi as Gopi bahu

  31. Agree with the article and I'am glad that it is coming form the media. It's a pity that the PH n CV's are playing around with the future of the brilliant actors Barun/Sanaya and the rest. There seems to be no continuity anymore in the story, one day we have an intense love seen and the next day senseless comedy.I wonder what the CV's are after?Instead of following the clues by Khushi n Arnav, they have fed us with absolutely nonse and that is why the show is draa....ging.If the dropping TRP's are an indicator the CV's should do some rethinking why....????? and high time they came up with interesting epis, maybe they should do some research on why were the TRP's high during earlier months.I guess the viewers are rather tired of stagnation in the story, it's not moving, instead, if we go by yesterday's precap, there seems to be another boring MU coming up, instead of clearing the old MU.Also there seems to be no proper interaction amongst the family members, sad, hate to see this show go down the drain like many others.

from Switzerland (watch online, the only Indian show I watch)

  32. I agree completely with the article. I am a HUGE fan of Barun and Sanaya and it pains me that the serial is constantly dragging with respect to storyline.. Not just dragging but also compromising the character sketch of some characters with slapstick comedy and poor direction.. For eg, in honeymoon in Bali track, it could have been done in a more subtle manner..Like the family booking a hotel room for the couples.. But instead. they resorted to a lame track of celebrating honeymoon in a FAKE decorated resort (i.e their own house) and meaningless comedy and not just that, who actually celebrates one's honeymoon and does a passionate dance infront of WHOLE FAMILY, this was beyond lame and indigestable..

Secondly they NEED to show Arnav and Khushi's thoughts more frequently.. Audience is clueless of what goes on in the lead's mind and we take what we see hence the audience is unable to connect with the show. How can Khushi NOT share her state with her own family..? How can she remain so lightheaded with this harsh reality hanging over her head that the marriage is just for 6 months..! What would become of her life after THAT..? Has she got NO plans about her life..? CVs dont show about HER point of views AT ALL..! And i think THAT is a major flaw.. They showed Khushi getting suspicious that Arnav knows about Shyam.. Then they totally forgot about this track which had SO much potential.. How can Khushi do comedy when her character ACTUALLY requires some maturity at this stage of the show..?

Lastly they haven't shown Arnav thinking about his misunderstanding AT ALL.! He has seen how closely Khushi is bonded with his family esp his own Di.. He has seen her selfless, he caring, her adorable side.. Can't he be shown a little doubtful that he COULD be wrong about her..? His hot and cold attitude is confusing the viewers.. And these catch fall and forced romantic scenes needs to be replaced by some EAL action.! Its high time..!

Hope that you people will voice our opinions to the Creative team of this show.. I LOVE LOVE this show.. And it pains to see the constant dripping of TRPs.. :(

    1. Hey Niha great article. I think one reason the show is afraid to do anything big might cause of IPL....but then again it kicked of yesterday and the show has been going down the hill long before that.

Heer Ranjha track was total useless...their performace lacked something though i cant exactly figure out what but it was comeplete crap...first of all it was fancy dress competition and all the competitors that were performing were doing comedy...where does Heer Ranjha come in that?

This show has so much potential, so many sides to explore and yet they are just stuck on Arnav being Stupid and khushi accepting his stupidness [is there such a word lol]

Shyam as usual is failing in all of his plans but watching him on screen lately has far more interesting than watching arhi.

Anjali is living in her own fairtale world obliviosu to her surroundings - do women like her really exist?

Akash and Payal hardly get any screen time and when Payal does all she is left to do is cry and take the blame on her MIL

I read the interview of Arshad Khan saying that something major is going to happen soon and Aranv will realize Khushi is innocent but when....those rumors are going on forever. This show has turned into a drag

haha sorry for the long comment

  35. & then comes todays episode .......oh god i think this is a conspiracy ... i have a feeling that the PH is sadistic in nature ... they did this with Geet as well .... when u had audiences hooked .... u took the story to some different tangent .... God todays episode ranks as the biggest anti climax in this serial ... really looked forward to a passionate outburst ... the director of this show needs a stick up his *** so do the writers ... pls some original shit will work ... try for something which we have not seen in Geet or ur Gopi bahu ... pls earnest request ...which husband stands by & lets his wife be mauled by her "lover" & then asks her about it later ... Arnav is fast becoming into a cuckold .... all i am left with is "WHAT THE" ???

  39. I think what I wanted from this was something on the lines of .. woman standing against a strong villan.. A tormented anti-hero, who will do anything to protect his anchor..
The story started with that .. Khushi was gutsy.. riding scooters, going to the media office .. Arnav was "superb" .. with his "helicopters and just dropping the hero" act (loved him for that) .. and Shyam made me realize that hell yeah! you can love a villan .. the episodes were fantastic .. great direction kept me glued to the show...
But, today .. I am disappointed.. disappointed with Arnav, a business tycoon, who doesn't do background checks properly, a tycoon, who can not do the math.. a ruthless hero who is not thinking 5 steps ahead .. THIS IS NOT I SIGNED UP FOR ..
Khushi .. Oh dear where do I even start.. she has become this spineless creature for me.. she is mauled in almost every episode.. my question WHY ??? and yet, she is not doing anything to protect herself.. AGAIN WHY??
SHYAM is the only saving grace .. his character is the only thing that is going right.. his evolving psycho nature is what we would expect.. my only complain here.. he is a lawyer.. dont make him a free loader ..

So I DONT THINK THE FANS WANT ROMANCE .. what FANS want is a little logic.. there are other ways of creating mis understandings.. we want intense story.. good direction and editing ..

WHAT I AM GETTING NOW A DAYS.. is MEDIOCRE ..!!

    1. This is the bottom line. The CVs can give us love, they can give us hate, they can give us misunderstandings. Our ask - as viewers - is that whatever they choose to do - DO IT WELL!!!! You're so right - the show is becoming mediocre. Which is not what any of us signed up for.

    2. It feels like I'm staring at the road side staring at an accident occurring helplessly. The show is getting worse with each episode which is truly not what any of us signed up for.

    3. I will tell you what. The cv's are busy creating an emotional hopeful high and then crash the hopeS the next minute thinking that this will bring about suspense and increase trp. In that process they loose track of what they did yesterday. Amnesia of what happened 3 months ago is obvious. Every day there is stand alone episode and the goal of the weak is to create a high and loW nt the flow of the story. Even children these days are taught that a 500 word document should be consistent and the paragraph transitions should be smooth. The mediocre writers need to go back to grade 5 and the sadistic psychopath directors should be taken to task for continuously playing this insane emotional high low game. By the time they decide to clear the MU viewers will have lost interest.

  40. Thank you so much for writing this article! You have voiced many of the thoughts that viewers are currently feeling. The show is definitely NOT what it once was. Having seen all the episodes so far, I can safely say that this is currently the worst phase for the show - regardless of TRPs. Creatively, the show is not where it should be. The writing, and direction is starting to feel very lazy. Characters are being written poorly. Side characters are being utilized in the wrong way. Arnav and Khushi are not being given the proper scope to grow their relationship either. They are the heart and soul of the show, and they are being given the same circular dialogue again and again. There is NO movement. It makes no sense, and it is NOT interesting to watch. Their "Rabba Ve" moments have been horrible lately. Falling and catching. Falling and catching. Absolutely no originality. Even things like wardrobe and sets seem lazily put together. I have no idea what is going on with the show. But, it's very worrisome.

PLEASE - forward this article and comments to the makers of the show. Ask them to re-focus on Storyline, Dialogues, and Character Progression. Also, ask them to show real Emotion and Growth. Their audience is mostly young, educated females. It is also an International audience (I live in Canada). We are not easily fooled. It pains me to see the show the way it is right now.

  41. The show is getting dumb and dumber for the past 6-8 weeks....Hope the producers wake up at get to the main storyline soon

  42. Considering this is a serial in the main time slot, one would assume that people of soundmind also watch it. The show started off with great detailing. One could see each character etched out with finesse. The hatred one felt towards Arnav was due to his character, his emoting, and the way he handled himself as Arnav, the ruthless businessman. Khushi did justice to her small town character, of being a person who thought with her heart. Straightforward, very principled and extremely independent.
Looks like the cv's have gotten all jumbled up because of all the awards that came their way. They assume that we viewers will take whatever is dished out to us? Well , they are very wrong. If they are having trouble putting the characters together, I would suggest they go at it one at a time. Deal with each character, his issues regarding the situation, and then his take on it. Then move on to the next. At least pieces will fall together and the story will move on in a positive direction. We do not insist that every moment or every episode needs to have a 'rabba ve'moment...but at least work on the issue that is present.
    You have
    1. Arnav's understanding of the situaion through his eyes. ...Solve that..or at least make him think about solving it
    2. Khushi's relationship with her sister, could be oen track that could help the story. Her intution works in many ways..so why not make it work in her understanding the one person, she can even sense without seeing.
3.Anjali needs to be made into more of a character than a dummy dumb figure.
4Shyam is just always twitching and making vague expressions...but nothing more
Lots of pauses in the storyline that could be filled with just a few creases being ironed out..
Hopefully the cv's will sort out their confusion in their brains and put pen to paper and move things forward.
All the best to everyone on the team..i'm sure this is just a small hiccup, and soon, you'll will be whizzing past..and things will all fall into place.

  43. its old habit of this PH,they start the show well but later turn it into crap,no story, just scenes and comedy, the viewers who start loving the leads, even end up watching this crap. They are not able to maintain the high. They did this to GHSP,they are doing this to IPKKND.

  44. Well this article basically nailed everyone's thoughts. Everyone is pissed at the situation, and Arnav that guy does need brains. he calls himself a Business tycoon? Good lord he just seems so dumb now. Hes only looking at Shyam's side of the story and not Khushi's. As far as Khushi yes she does need to pick the hints but you have to give her props for actually doing shit, she doesn't sit around in a corner and cry all day which was what most typical bahu's do. Like Gopi, that girl also needs a spine! Khushi has guts to answer and fight back arnav not many bahu's do that. But his manhandling needs to stop! Shyam-well im not going to bother with him, he's playing his villian part right.
And ANJALI, god help that woman she is so stupid how is she so blind? VERY poor example of a woman, i hope the CV's make her character something worth admiring! For Payal, Akash and Mamiji, honestly they are all so boring, their shit is so retarted & stupid its not even joke worthy! -.-

But yes they do need to move the storyline ASAP! at this rate people will quit watching! For the editing, honeslty the editing is not the best but its decent enough. They have to work alot more than Movie actors do, they dont have enough time to re-shoot scenes plus the editing and all? Its takes up alot of time, i think we should be great ful as far as the editing goes, at least its not Horrible, if not the best. Its still decent enough.

  45. Look!nobody in the past 50 or so comments said they hate the show!you know why we care to post for this show?give our input?spend hours on thinking about it?we care like we've never cared for a tv show...we want it soar heights...we want it to be par excellence...but Arnav Khushi's life is in impractical emotional break down phase....so if everything was that easy....Khushi deals by trying to find the feel goods in the worst situatio and Arnav does not think practical when Khushi is concerned!also...he is unable to take over shy am's actions and hence tries to take over Khushi and tries to keep it under control by over ruling Khushi which is not easy!I get it and am in for wherever this journey takes me...it's a story to be told...it exists...it's not one we write!

  46. Hey very observant take on the present condition of IPKKND. I am of West Indian/Caribbean Origin and this the first Indian drama that really caught my eye. I did not mind the fights and misunderstandings when Khushi and Arnav were not married or even living under the same roof. It has become so illogical that I'm now wondering if the creatives are suffering from writer's block. We know its a love hate story but there is no balance at all the scale are definitely tipping to one side. There is no sign of Arnav having even a little bit of trust in Khushi. He instead shouts at her and constantly manhandles her. Okay we get it!!! He hate her for supposedly having an affair with his sister's husband. In such a situation a man will pay off such a woman if he thinks she's a gold-digger as Arnav assume she is. Why marry her and keep her in the same house as her lover? The other thing about this story that irritates me is the fact that the leads keep speaking in riddles. For start the misunderstanding between then need to be cleared foremost and that does not spell the end of the story. Shyam truth can be exposed to family later with the leads working together to achieve this. (united we stand but divided we fall) There are so many different scope for this story to keep viewers hooked and to keep it with us for a while. I just hope they don't destroy a potentially brilliant story. I am already a disappointed and frustrated viewer. I am tired of the trail of breadcrumbs the leads are leaving for each other. So tired, REALLY.

  47. Looking at today's SBS segment, it looks like they are headed for comedy again. I feel like kicking the CVs where it hurts most. They are really messing up a show I love so much. Have been watching the last 2 months only for Barun and Sanaya.

  48. very well written, agree to the points specified separately on each track..

  49. You really nailed it. Hope they make some kind of improvements and the CV's don't take us for viewers without brains. I have been a regular addict of the show except of late where i have been using the REMOTE option and now the IPL is a huge temptation if they don't bring the story line in place. Thanks for the amazing analysis.

  50. Finally somebody has said what we all have been thinking. This show has been going downhill for a long time now. I really don't mind the misunderstand between them but the way it has been played out is plain stupid. The fact is once Arnav and Khushi come together that is pretty much the end of the show. What makes them unique is that their story takes the idea of "opposites attract" and gives it a very unique and different twist. Sure opposites attract but is the attraction enough to overcome the opposition in their characters and backgrounds. What I was really interested in was seeing the story of a super-rich, sophisticated, arrogant man and a poor, loud but spirited girl. I wanted to see how the class divide gets played out. Love and attraction is all very fine but how do you deal with the fact that the girl you are attracted to is someone that you can't really introduce to your social group. Or the fact that the man you love has a lifestyle beyond your wildest dream. That, in itself, would have been a wonderful and unusual track to pursue.

Instead, they add a bunch of desi characters to Arnav's house so that the gap between Khushi and Arnav's social position gets diminished. Then, they show that Arnav has no real objections to his brother's marriage with Payal. This means that the Gupta family's low status is not really a big deal for him. And what it ultimately means is that Arnav, the business tycoon, who was supposed to be class conscious is now suddenly no longer class conscious!

As for the marriage, now it might seem totally illogical to marry the girl you think is destroying your sister's marriage and then forcing her to live under the same roof as her lover. But there is an emotional logic to it. Arnav, when he finds out about Khushi's betrayal, is very much in love with her. This marriage is his way of dishing out a much more personal and psychological punishment to Khushi. Instead of a real marriage that he was going to offer her that night, he offers a fake marriage. According to him, Khushi has been toying with his feelings while carrying on with Shyam all this while. So this is a much more direct and personal punishment rather than just buying her off with money. But of course, none of this is depicted in the serial.

As for Shyam, I always thought that Arnav's plan would be to consummating his marriage with Khushi and rub that fact in Shyam's face. Once she is taken, whatever lust or love Shyam feels for her would diminish considerable. Combined this with the awkwardness of living under the watchful eyes of relatives and the wife herself -- they wouldn't be able to carry on their relationship. But again, the serial makes no attempt to focus on any of this. Instead they are happy playing out meaningless comedy and forced romantic moments.

It's a terrible waste of two unique characters.

    ReplyDelete
  51. If one goes back to how the romance was building up in the beginning of the show, there was freshness, naughtiness, innocence and magic to it. When they do go back to the lead pairs romance (if ever), it would be marred with the history of disillusionment, mistrust and there would be a lack of innocent love in it. What could have been a tender love story where they could have shown the magic of the marriage ceremonies of the lead pair in love and subsequent events (that had been Khushis's dream as a young girl) is lost to the viewer...
Its true that this is how the PH works...they did the same with GHSP...started out with a bang and went downhill later....Its because they etch out the characters and give them a strong persona in the beginning that the viewers get hooked on to the show and follow the garbage later due the actors....Had hoped after GHSP the PH would have learnt not to make the same mistakes....But appears not!

  52. I do think that it has been silly the last couple of weeks, but when an episode like the 6th of April happens then it is back with the magic and I hope that it will keep happening ....this is supposed to be an unique story , so we have to wait patiently ...love ArShi

  53. it is quite obvious that people want to see Arnav and Kushi together. So TRP ratings does increase when they show their love rather than their hatred for each other. But only showing those scenes will not be adequate to take the story forward.First there has to be a base for their love.It could be provided by ending the misunderstanding that arnav has..As we know arnav is an unpredictable person there has to be a very strong reason for him to fall in love with kushi and to confess his love, which could be his regret for treating kushi in a bad manner. As for the current track, they are married and live in the same house ,maybe because they can't always show love or hatred ,they are sticking with the next available option which is comedy. It is true that they have not changed the flow greatly but we can still hope a good twist in the show

    ReplyDelete
  54. You have said it all..It's almost like you've read my mind to the T!! It's high time they recreate the magic between the lead characters. It's just turning out to be a show full of meaningless comedy. I wish the makers of this show get the mesg n choose to do something about it ASAP

  55. I have personally liked this love story very much and I have never missed a episode. It was really great to see a mills and boon love story after such a long time. It reminded me of 'FARMAAN' , the DD1 serial of the 1990s. A angry young man kanwaljeet and a sweet girl Deepika...The initial story line of IPKKND was excellent. It clearly indicated what was the Character Arnav's past and what has made him so ruthless and also the character Khushi who inspite of being an orphan and poor , is so full of life and always caring and lovable to others..The character Arnav is already in a lot of pain because of him past. This tract has increased his pain ...The character Khushi should have changed his life and brought more happiness. maybe thats the reason why the TRPs are dipping drastically. Moreover all the other characters of IPKKND dont seem to have any role at all and are not interlinked...Each character should be woven around these two characters very carefully..We wish the misunderstanding gets cleared soon which I think should be done by Khushi's father...while Arnav is in their house..Kindly do not let the character Shyam be flirting with Khushi and Khushi being showed very helpless. She is supposed to be Arnav's wife...She should do everything to protect herself..lets hope for the best and I really wish to see this show leading the TRP charts soon...

    ReplyDelete
  56. the misunderstanding must finish now because the fiction is really boring there is no movement, with such good actors like arnav and khushi that can put fire onscreen we want to see romantic scene its time for asr to know the truth
